Petulla (Albanian Fried Dough)

Petulla are traditional Albanian fried dough rounds that are crisp outside and soft inside.

Serve them warm with cheese, honey, jam, or garlic yogurt for a versatile dish that works for breakfast, snacks, or sharing plates.

  1. Mix flour, egg, warm water, yeast and salt into a thick batter.
  2. Cover and let rise 30–40 minutes.
  3. Heat oil in a deep pan.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of dough and fry until golden on both sides.
  5. Drain and serve warm with cheese, honey, jam, or garlic yogurt.

  • 400 g Plain Flour
  • 275 ml Water warm
