Hoi Sin Dip

This easy no-cook hoisin dip comes together in minutes and adds bold sweet, salty and aromatic flavour to appetisers and mains. It is ideal for dunking crispy spring rolls, potstickers or chicken skewers. A short chill helps the garlic and ginger mellow into the sauce for a smoother finish. Keep a jar in the fridge for quick lunches, snack platters or party sharing boards.

Method

10m30m
  1. Add hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated garlic and grated ginger to a small bowl.
  2. Whisk until smooth and glossy. Add 1 tablespoon water if you prefer a looser dipping consistency.
  3. Taste and balance: add a splash more vinegar for tang or a little extra hoisin for sweetness.
  4. Cover and chill for 20-30 minutes to let the flavours meld.
  5. Serve with dumplings, spring rolls or grilled skewers, topped with sliced spring onion if using.

Ingredients

  • 1 Spring Onion finely sliced, for garnish (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 4 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp Rice Vinegar
  • 1-2 tbsp Water to loosen if needed
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 tsp Fresh Ginger finely grated
  • 1 clove Garlic finely grated

Notes

For a thicker glaze-style sauce, skip the water and brush over grilled meats in the last minute of cooking.
Store chilled in an airtight container for up to 5 days; stir before serving.
To make it spicier, whisk in a pinch of chilli flakes or a dash of chilli oil.
