Nepali Momos with Spicy Achar

Nepali momos are soft, juicy dumplings packed with aromatic filling and traditionally served with a fiery achar dipping sauce.

This version keeps the classic street-food spirit while using practical home methods, making it perfect for sharing with family and friends.

  1. In a bowl, mix minced chicken, onion, garlic, ginger, spring onion, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper.
  2. Place a small spoon of filling in each momo wrapper.
  3. Pleat and seal edges firmly into half-moon or round momo shapes.
  4. Lightly oil steamer trays and arrange momos with space between each.
  5. Steam for 10–12 minutes until wrappers are translucent and filling is fully cooked.
  6. For achar: blend tomatoes, soaked chillies, toasted sesame seeds, lemon juice, salt, and optional coriander until smooth.
  7. Serve hot momos with spicy achar dip.

Ingredients

  • 30 Momo Wrappers store-bought or homemade
  • Black Pepper, to taste
  • 3 Dried red chillies soaked
  • 2 Spring Onion finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Coriander chopped, optional in achar
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tbsp Ginger grated
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 small Onion very finely chopped
  • 3 medium Tomatoes for achar
  • 3 cloves Garlic minced
  • 400 g Minced Chicken or minced pork
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice for achar
  • 2 tbsp Sesame Seeds toasted

Notes

Keep wrappers covered while shaping so they do not dry out.

Do not overcrowd the steamer; cook in batches for even steaming.

Adjust achar chilli level gradually — it should be punchy but balanced.
