Ingredients

  • 120 g Unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 80 g Light brown sugar
  • 80 g Walnuts roughly chopped
  • 100 g Porridge Oats
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 900 g Bramley Apples peeled and sliced
  • 120 g Plain Flour

  1. Heat the oven to 190°C (170°C fan). Toss the apples with lemon juice, half the sugar and cinnamon, then spread in a buttered baking dish.
  2. Rub the flour, oats and butter together until crumbly, then stir in the remaining sugar and walnuts.
  3. Scatter the topping over the apples in an even layer without pressing it down.
  4. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and bubbling around the edges.
  5. Rest for 10 minutes before serving warm with custard, cream or vanilla ice cream.
