Classic Homemade Coleslaw

This classic coleslaw combines crisp cabbage and carrot with a balanced creamy dressing that is fresh rather than heavy. It is ideal for barbecues, sandwiches, burgers and everyday sides.

  1. In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage, grated carrot and red onion if using.
  2. In a smaller bowl, whisk mayonnaise, Greek yogurt (if using), cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, sugar, celery salt, salt and pepper until smooth.
  3. Pour dressing over the vegetables and toss thoroughly until everything is evenly coated.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning, adding a little extra vinegar for more tang if needed.
  5. Chill for 20 to 30 minutes before serving for the best texture and flavour.

  • 1 tsp Dijon Mustard
  • 1/4 tsp celery salt optional
  • 120 ml Mayonnaise
  • Black Pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 medium white cabbage finely shredded
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1/4 small Red Onion very finely sliced, optional
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Greek yogurt optional, for lighter dressing
  • 1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 medium Carrot grated

Notes

Salt the shredded cabbage lightly and drain for extra crunch.
Chill for 20 minutes before serving to let flavours meld.
Add a splash of cider vinegar if you prefer a sharper finish.
