Classic Bakewell Tart

Indulge in the classic British dessert with this easy-to-follow Bakewell tart recipe.

A buttery pastry filled with almond mixture and sweet raspberry jam, this tart is perfect for any occasion.

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6.
  2. In a mixing bowl, blend ground almonds, softened butter, and caster sugar.
  3. Add beaten egg and vanilla extract, then chill the mixture.
  4. Roll out the pastry and place it in a roasting tray.
  5. Spread raspberry jam on the pastry, then top with almond mixture.
  6. Fold the edges of the pastry over the filling and brush with egg-milk mixture.
  7. Sprinkle with sugar and almonds.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, then reduce temperature and bake for another 10 minutes.
  9. Cool slightly before serving.

Ingredients

  • 100g Caster Sugar plus extra for dusting
  • 100g Butter softened
  • Plain Flour for dusting, to taste
  • 30ml Milk
