Jani me Fasule (Albanian Bean Stew)

Jani me Fasule is classic Albanian comfort food made from simple pantry ingredients. Slow-simmered beans, sweet onion, and tomato create a thick, warming stew with deep flavour.

Serve with crusty bread for a satisfying meal, especially on colder days when you want something nourishing and budget-friendly.

  1. If using dried beans, soak overnight and boil until nearly tender.
  2. Sauté onion in olive oil, then add tomato purée and paprika.
  3. Add beans, bay leaf and enough water to cover.
  4. Simmer until thick, saucy, and fully tender.
  5. Season and serve hot with bread.

  • 2 tbsp Tomato purée
  • 500 g White Beans soaked overnight or use canned
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • Black Pepper, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • as needed Water
