Air Fryer Crispy Sesame Beef

Air Fryer Crispy Sesame Beef

This Air Fryer Crispy Sesame Beef gives you the takeaway-style sweet-savoury flavour without deep frying. The beef is coated in cornflour, air-fried until golden at the edges, then quickly finished in a sticky sauce with garlic, ginger and sesame. Serve it straight away over steamed rice or noodles with spring onions and extra sesame seeds. It is ideal for a fast midweek dinner and easy to scale if you are cooking for a crowd.

Method

  1. Pat the beef dry, then toss with the cornflour and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil until evenly coated.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 200°C for 3 minutes.
  3. Arrange the coated beef in a single layer and air-fry for 8 to 10 minutes, shaking halfway, until crisp and cooked through. Cook in batches if needed.
  4. While the beef cooks, whisk together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, tomato puree, garlic, ginger, chilli flakes and remaining sesame oil.
  5. Pour the sauce into a large frying pan and simmer over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. Add the hot air-fried beef to the pan and toss for 1 to 2 minutes so every piece is coated and glossy.
  7. Stir through sesame seeds, then remove from the heat.
  8. Serve immediately topped with spring onion and extra sesame seeds.

Ingredients

  • 10g Ginger finely grated
  • 1 tsp Chilli Flakes optional
  • 30ml Honey
  • 45ml Light Soy Sauce
  • 15ml Rice Vinegar
  • 60g Cornflour for coating
  • 10g Tomato purée
  • 500g Beef Steak cut into thin strips
  • 2 Spring Onion thinly sliced, to serve
  • 2 tsp Sesame Seeds plus extra to serve
  • 15ml Sesame Oil divided
  • 3 cloves Garlic finely minced

Notes

For extra crispness, cook the beef in two batches so the pieces are in a single layer in the basket.
If you prefer a milder flavour, reduce or omit the chilli flakes.
Leftovers keep for up to 2 days in the fridge; reheat in the air fryer for 3 to 4 minutes to refresh texture.
