Air Fryer Crispy Sesame Beef
This Air Fryer Crispy Sesame Beef gives you the takeaway-style sweet-savoury flavour without deep frying. The beef is coated in cornflour, air-fried until golden at the edges, then quickly finished in a sticky sauce with garlic, ginger and sesame.
Serve it straight away over steamed rice or noodles with spring onions and extra sesame seeds. It is ideal for a fast midweek dinner and easy to scale if you are cooking for a crowd.
Method

- Pat the beef dry, then toss with the cornflour and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil until evenly coated.
- Preheat the air fryer to 200°C for 3 minutes.
- Arrange the coated beef in a single layer and air-fry for 8 to 10 minutes, shaking halfway, until crisp and cooked through. Cook in batches if needed.
- While the beef cooks, whisk together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, tomato puree, garlic, ginger, chilli flakes and remaining sesame oil.
- Pour the sauce into a large frying pan and simmer over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Add the hot air-fried beef to the pan and toss for 1 to 2 minutes so every piece is coated and glossy.
- Stir through sesame seeds, then remove from the heat.
- Serve immediately topped with spring onion and extra sesame seeds.
Ingredients
- 10g Ginger finely grated
- 1 tsp Chilli Flakes optional
- 30ml Honey
- 45ml Light Soy Sauce
- 15ml Rice Vinegar
- 60g Cornflour for coating
- 10g Tomato purée
- 500g Beef Steak cut into thin strips
- 2 Spring Onion thinly sliced, to serve
- 2 tsp Sesame Seeds plus extra to serve
- 15ml Sesame Oil divided
- 3 cloves Garlic finely minced
Notes
For extra crispness, cook the beef in two batches so the pieces are in a single layer in the basket.
If you prefer a milder flavour, reduce or omit the chilli flakes.
Leftovers keep for up to 2 days in the fridge; reheat in the air fryer for 3 to 4 minutes to refresh texture.
