Easy Homemade Sausage Rolls
Crispy homemade sausage rolls with a simple puff pastry finish and a fun job for little helpers.
These air fryer ham and cheese pastry parcels turn a sheet of ready-rolled puff pastry into crisp, golden hand pies with a creamy, savoury filling.
They are straightforward enough for a busy lunch but still feel like a treat, and the air fryer keeps the pastry light without heating the whole oven.
Unroll the pastry and cut it into 8 even rectangles. Stir the ham, cheddar, cream cheese, mustard, spring onions and black pepper together in a bowl until the filling holds together.
Spoon the filling onto half of the pastry rectangles, leaving a clear border. Brush the edges with beaten egg, top with the remaining pastry and press the edges firmly with a fork to seal.
Brush the parcels with more beaten egg and scatter with sesame seeds if using. Chill for 5 minutes while the air fryer heats to 180°C.
Cook the parcels in a single layer for 12–15 minutes, working in batches if needed, until the pastry is puffed, crisp and deeply golden.
Leave the parcels to stand for 3–5 minutes before eating so the cheese settles, then add salad leaves or pickles on the side for an easy lunch.
