Spam Musubi

Spam Musubi is a beloved Hawaiian snack made with seasoned rice, caramelised Spam and crisp nori. It is savoury, slightly sweet and perfect for packed lunches or grab-and-go snacks.

Once assembled, it keeps well chilled and slices neatly.

Method

  1. Cook sushi rice and season with rice vinegar.
  2. Fry Spam slices until lightly crisp.
  3. Add soy sauce, sugar and mirin; glaze for 1–2 minutes.
  4. Lay a strip of nori on a board.
  5. Press a block of rice in the centre, top with Spam, then another thin rice layer.
  6. Wrap nori around tightly and seal edge with a little water.
  7. Repeat and rest 5 minutes before slicing or serving.

Ingredients

  • 300 g Sushi Rice cooked
  • 1 tbsp Mirin optional
  • 4 Nori Sheets halved
  • 1 tbsp Rice Vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 tin Spam sliced
  • 1 tbsp Brown sugar

Notes

Season to taste and adjust timings slightly depending on your hob/oven.
