- 750 ml Water or white wine

- Peel 4 large pears, keeping the stems intact for visual appeal.
- In a large saucepan, combine 750ml of water or white wine with 2 cinnamon sticks and 6 cloves. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Place the pears upright in the saucepan. The liquid should cover most of the pears.
- Cover and simmer gently for 15-20 minutes or until the pears are tender but still hold their shape.
- Carefully remove the pears and set aside. Increase the heat and reduce the poaching liquid to about half, creating a syrup.
- Serve the pears warm, drizzled with the reduced poaching syrup, a spoonful of honey, and a dollop of mascarpone cheese.
