Spiced Poached Pears

Spiced Poached Pears

Spiced Poached Pears offer a delightful blend of warmth and sweetness, perfect for a cosy evening dessert. This recipe simplifies the art of poaching pears in a fragrant bath of cinnamon and cloves, using either water or white wine as the base.

The warmth of the spices infuses the pears with a rich flavour that is beautifully complemented by the sweetness of honey and the creamy texture of mascarpone cheese. It's an elegant yet effortless dish that can light up any dinner table.

Method

  1. Peel 4 large pears, keeping the stems intact for visual appeal.
  2. In a large saucepan, combine 750ml of water or white wine with 2 cinnamon sticks and 6 cloves. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  3. Place the pears upright in the saucepan. The liquid should cover most of the pears.
  4. Cover and simmer gently for 15-20 minutes or until the pears are tender but still hold their shape.
  5. Carefully remove the pears and set aside. Increase the heat and reduce the poaching liquid to about half, creating a syrup.
  6. Serve the pears warm, drizzled with the reduced poaching syrup, a spoonful of honey, and a dollop of mascarpone cheese.
