Cheese & Onion Pasties

Cheese & Onion Pasties are a proper comfort bake with flaky pastry and a savoury, creamy filling. Soft onions, potato and mature cheddar make them hearty and satisfying.

They are perfect for lunch, picnics or simple suppers with salad.

Method

  1. Heat oven to 200°C and line a baking tray.
  2. Boil potatoes for 10 minutes until tender, then drain.
  3. Soften onion in butter for 6–8 minutes.
  4. Mash potato lightly and mix with onion, cheddar, salt and pepper.
  5. Roll pastry and cut into 4 circles.
  6. Divide filling onto one half of each circle.
  7. Fold over, crimp edges, brush with milk and cut a small steam hole.
  8. Bake 25–30 minutes until golden and crisp.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Milk for brushing
  • Salt, to taste
  • 500 g Shortcrust Pastry
  • 1 large Onion finely chopped
  • 350 g Potatoes peeled and diced
  • 20 g Butter
  • Black Pepper, to taste
  • 200 g Cheddar grated

Notes

Season to taste and adjust timings slightly depending on your hob/oven.
